Adverse Reactions to Botox Reported

The U.S. FDA issued a warning today regarding negative reactions associated with Botox that have been reported.

Botox Cosmetic and Myobloc have reportedly been linked to respiratory failure and death under certain circumstances.

Agency Questions Reasoning Behind Reactions

A recent review of the agency said that the reactions could be related to overdosing and they have yet to find conclusive evidence that there is any defect in the products.

The negative reactions reportedly occurred in both FDA-approved and nonapproved forms of Botox.

Most Severe Reactions in Children

The most severe reactions have been found to happen in children who are being treated for cerebral palsy.

Doctors believe that the reactions in children with cerebral palsy have occurred in relation to the spreading of toxins in various areas that are typically distant from the injection site.

FDA Still Investigating

The FDA is not advising that health care professionals discontinue their use of Botox on patients yet.

After further investigating the product and the cause of reactions, the FDA intends to communicate its conclusions more fully to the public.
