The Advanced Management of Pediatric Spasticity, or AMPS, is a program that is helping to streamline care for children with cerebral palsy who are having additional problems.
Many children reportedly experience complications like spasticity, which can prohibit them from walking and moving as they normally would.
Boy Struggles with Walking
Aaron Van Kampen was diagnosed with cerebral palsy seven months after being born and his parents claim that he’s always had trouble walking.
Since his diagnosis, Aaron has been experiencing spasticity, which prevented him from walking, running, kicking a ball and putting his socks on.
He was basically trapped in a body that fought him with every step, explain his parents.
Surgery Proves Beneficial
However, two weeks after having surgery, which was a collaborative effort between Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital and Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, he was supposedly putting on his sock all by himself.
AMPS reportedly offers families like the Van Kampens access to a team of specialists who work together to form the right treatment plan for each individual child.
