The President of the March of Dimes, Dr. Jennifer L. Howse, recently issued a statement applauding the Senate for their approval of the revised bill for the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
In the statement, Howse spoke of the importance of the CHIP bill and explained that the program makes necessary contributions to children living in the United States.
The CHIP bill has recently undergone revisions and was created so insurance would be provided for children from lower class families.
Under the bill, more than 6 million American children will be covered by insurance once they are enrolled in the program.
The CHIP bill has been set up to protect the children and families of lower income households from being without medical care, which is especially important for infants born with illnesses like cerebral palsy.
CHIP is also crucial in helping mothers receive the prenatal care they need, as well as the care during and after pregnancy, to help prevent cerebral palsy ensure they will deliver healthy children.
The provisions made to the bill include coverage guidelines for pregnant women.
Overall, the revised bill for CHIP attempts to improve the quality of pediatric care throughout the country.
