Cord Blood Helps Toddler with CP

The parents of a child who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at eight months old, decided to research cord blood in hopes that it would help him with his motor and communication skills.

They chose to take part in a clinical trial involving the boy’s cord blood, which was preserved after his birth, and they now claim that he is showing minimal signs of the disability.

Infant Diagnosed with CP

Dallas Hextell, was reportedly diagnosed with cerebral palsy when he was eight months old.

His motor skills were delayed, he could not crawl, sit up or communicate with his parents by 18 months.

When his parents, Cynthia and Derak, heard about a clinical trial being conducted at Duke University regarding cerebral palsy and children, they jumped at the chance to find a cure for their little boy.

Clinical Trial Changes Child’s Future

According to reports, Dallas was one of few children who were chosen to be treated with cord blood during a clinical trial that focused on helping those with cerebral palsy and brain damage.

After receiving the treatment, Dallas reportedly began reacting, laughing and communicating with his parents.

The Hextell’s claim that “a different child emerged.”

“We think the transfusion has a big part to do with is because it was such a drastic change within five days of the procedure taking place,” states Derak. “It had to be because he wasn’t reaching the milestones he is now. He was falling further and further behind.”
