A Virginia Beach camp offers children with cerebral palsy a place where they can improve their motor skills and begin to become a bit more independent.
The Pediatric Life Skills Specialists 2007 summer camp, which is being conducted at the Jewish Community Center, has been in operation for two years and parents with disabled children couldn't be happier.
Children Showing Improvement
Most children at the camp have cerebral palsy and other conditions with similar symptoms.
According to the camp's founder, Judit Roth, “It helps children or adults with cerebral palsy or other physical disabilities read a higher level of functional independence.”
The program was set up to encourage children with physical disabilities to feel comfortable with and take control over the environment around them.
“Here at the camp, we encourage development and integration of motor, intellectual, social and academic skills,” explained Roth.
A Woman Devoted to Helping
Roth, who was born in Budapest, decided early in her life that she wanted to help children.
After earning her bachelor's degree in Conductive Education, she gained 15 years of experience in her field before beginning to set up various programs throughout the country.
“We want to be the link in the healing process for these children,” says Roth, “The most important thing for me is to help them live life to the fullest.”
