Water Workout Helps CP Patients

The University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill recently introduced a new form of therapy for patients with cerebral palsy.

This groundbreaking form of therapy can reportedly help both children and adults with cerebral palsy gain strength, mobility and hope.

Effective Treatment

According to research, an estimated 350 children are born with cerebral palsy in the U.S. each year.

For this reason, it’s essential that effective treatments and therapies are constantly being introduced to better the way of life for these patients.

George Kourtsounis, 31, is a credit counselor who has been participating in the water workout trials.

He says that as opposed to some patients who take the alternative route and let themselves go downhill, he puts his all into the workouts to maintain his strength and agility.

Staying Active Despite Disabilities

Researchers claim that one of the most important things for those with cerebral palsy to do is to stay active, both mentally and physically.

Starting children in water workouts and other forms of therapy at an early age will only benefit their overall health as they grow into adulthood.

“There is a perception that if you have CP, your mental state is compromised,” explains Kourtsounis. “If I am sitting on a bar stool, you would never know.”
