Cerebral palsy is a neurological disorder that can affect speech, movement, muscular coordination and more.
Various therapies are often prescribed to children with the disability to help them make improvements and the sport of golf has reportedly just become one of the many therapies proven to be beneficial.
Boy Learns to Golf
For Justin Hughes, 8, who was born with cerebral palsy, golf has served as a form of therapy that not only improves his motor skills, but also boosts his self-esteem.
“Justin is taking occupational and physical therapy. We have also enrolled him in speech therapy classes at school, but golf is his great love,” says his mother Elisa.
The Hughes take their son weekly to golf lessons at the Golf Recreation Center in Treasure Island.
“It gets him out of the house and he can see himself succeeding,” says Elisa, “It’s good for his self-esteem.”
