A telethon that recently took place in Houma, Louisiana, enabled an 11-year-olds voice to be heard and a community to become more educated about cerebral palsy.
Among those volunteering at the telethon, which helped to raise money for cerebral palsy victims throughout Louisiana, was a middle school student who found great satisfaction in having an audience and supporting a cause that hits close to home.
Blair Luke served as the poster representatives at the Bayou Area Telethon for Cerebral Palsy of Louisiana that took place earlier this month.
The telethon was open to the public and was broadcasted live to viewers in Terrebone and Lafourche.
The annual event reportedly attracts hundreds of volunteers, including famous entertainers and musicians.
The money raised at the telethon is going towards Louisiana residents who are living with cerebral palsy and need funds for treatment.
Luke was born prematurely with cerebral palsy and has been confined to a wheelchair since the age of three.
However, according to his parents, Frankie and Alicia, his disabilities don’t hinder his spirit in the least.
“He’s very outgoing,” says Alicia. “He’s very happy all of the time. He just enjoys life.”
During the telethon Blair talked with the hosts about his experience as a child living with cerebral palsy in an attempt to better inform communities about the disability.
