A settlement was reached earlier this week in Massachusetts regarding a boy who is now living with cerebral palsy as the result of a birth injury.
The boy's family was awarded $26 million in the cerebral palsy suit, which they plan on using to better the boy's quality of life and pay for his medical expenses.
Two doctors from the Boston Teaching Hospital, Dr. Julie D. Miner and Dr. Alisa B. Goldberg were named as the defendants in the lawsuit.
The women were accused of performing the botched delivery, which caused Jose Bejarano to suffer from brain injuries.
Both doctors allegedly failed to recognize the reportedly obvious signs of fetal distress during the delivery.
They were also accused of performing the Caesarean section too late, which ultimately caused Jose's disability.
The Bejarano family says that they are extremely happy that the case has been closed and justice has been served.
“It's a relief. We finally found out what happened to Jose,” said Jose Bejarano Sr., the father of the now 10- year-old boy.
Jose now receives 24-hour care for his condition.
