Motion Analysis Helps CP Patients

A new technology known as motion analysis has reportedly helped a boy in Massachusetts who is living with cerebral palsy.

The boy was born with the disability and as he grows older it has become harder for him to walk properly.

Boy Faces Difficulty Moving and Walking

Alex Weinstein is a boy who was born with cerebral palsy and according to his parents and the teachers at school, as he ages, his disability seems to worsen.

“He seemed to get shorter and shorter as he was getting older because his legs were bowing more,’ explains his mother, Shelley Weinstein.

Due to his physical problems, Alex and his family were told by some doctors that he may eventually have to rely on a wheelchair; therefore, they sought help from a specialist in New York City.

Family Goes to the Hospital for Special Surgery

The Weinstein family decided to go to the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City where they met with Dr. David Scher about motion analysis.

Scher wasn’t sure exactly where on the legs and feet he should operate and he knew that this advanced technology known as motion analysis could help.

With motion analysis, reflective markers were put on Alex’s body and information was sent to a computer so doctors could see a 360 degree picture of his body.

Using this technology, Dr. Scher was able to pinpoint exactly where the operation needed to be done so it would be successful.

Alex’s legs and feet were rotated and his hip muscles and hamstrings being lengthened.

Since the surgery, Alex has reportedly grown and is moving better and faster every day.
