Experts Respond to Premature Birth Crisis

According to recent reports, medical and health experts will reportedly meet to discuss plans regarding the current crisis of preterm birth in the U.S.

The meeting will join experts together from various cities throughout the U.S. who want to discuss a comprehensive national action plan to address this growing problem.

Conference Held

The conference is being headed by Acting Surgeon General Steven K. Galson and the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD).

The conference serves as a key element to the PREEMIE Act which was made a law in December.

The act calls for an increase in federal support for research, education, and pilot testing strategies surrounding premature births and the disabilities, like cerebral palsy, linked to them.

March of Dimes Joins the Effort

The March of Dimes has publicly voiced their willingness to help in the efforts and their appreciation for those involved that are taking steps to slow the increasing rate of premature births.

“Prematurity prevention needs to be a national health care priority; America cannot continue to allow the cries of these babies to go unheeded,” states Jennifer L. Howse, the President of the March of Dimes.

The March of Dimes expects the conference to help identify how to expand research in terms of preterm labor and various ways women can be educated to help reduce the risk of premature births, thus preventing cerebral palsy.
