Support Prematurity Awareness Month This November

More than half a million babies are born prematurely every year in the United States. Premature birth is the number one cause of death in newborns and a risk factor for cerebral palsy. However, there are things mothers can do to help prevent cerebral palsy and other developmental disorders.

The risk of premature birth affects every woman. Unfortunately, no one knows why. To support and encourage research, the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation sponsors Prematurity Awareness Month in November.

Show Your Support

  • Make a donation – The March of Dimes has collection centers across the U.S. Contact your local chapter to find the one nearest you.
  • Wear a wristband – A trendier way to make a donation! Purchase an awareness wristband to show your support.
  • Send an email to friends and family – You can download prewritten messages from the March of Dimes website. The messages discuss the problem and how to help.
  • Write a letter to the editor – Inform your community about Prematurity Awareness Month by downloading a prewritten letter from the March of Dimes website and sending it to the editor of your local paper.
  • Attend an event – Contact your local March of Dimes chapter to learn more about events in your community.
  • Notify your congregation – Tell your congregation about the dangers of premature birth. The March of Dimes website offers a downloadable House of Worship Kit.
  • Honor a child – Purchase a virtual band to honor a child.

By supporting Prematurity Awareness Month, you are helping to save lives. Visit the March of Dimes website to learn more about ways to help, or contact a cerebral palsy attorney who can help explain the legal rights of cerebral palsy patients.
