Technology Benefits CP Patients

Cerebral palsy can often make it difficult to control body motion and in some cases, take away a child’s ability to walk.

However, according to researchers computers could help keep children with this disability on their feet.

Disability Worsens in Boy

Alex Weinstein was born with cerebral palsy and according to his parents, his condition was only worsening as he grew older.

“I was always falling at school and at home,” says Alex.

As time progressed Alex eventually needed a wheelchair.

Dr. David Schafer, from the Hospital for Special Surgery says that he knew that surgery would be helpful but wasn’t sure what area to target.

He concluded that motion analysis, via the use of technology, was the only treatment that would help.

Computers Help Boy with Disability

With motion analysis, digital cameras reportedly record reflective markers that are taped to the body and send the information to the computer.

After Alex received the operation his parents claim it was as if he had new, straight legs.

Alex has supposedly begun moving faster and his condition is getting better.
