A birth-injury suit filed by a couple living in Waynesboro, VA, was recently settled.
The family was given $1.35 from the suit they filed against the University of Virginia Medical Center.
Lawsuit Claims
David and Elizabeth Morris filed a suit against the medical center after their son Hunter was born with cerebral palsy.
The family claimed the doctors at the hospital failed to properly respond to their son’s health complications in the hours before his birth.
The suit accused the hospital and doctors of negligence and improper care and believe that as a result of their carelessness, their son is now living with a disability.
Settlement Reached
The couple received the settlement as compensation for past and future medical expenses that are needed to care for Hunter.
According to reports, an estimated 60 percent of their settlement will have to be used to cover the estimated $9 million it will cost to care for Hunter for the rest of his life.
